"Careful Biking"
*How cool is this photograph. I just love it. Pictures like this are great thought provokers.
*This was the picture I used with my writers today.
*Each Wednesday we write in our writer's notebooks about a particular image.
*They can record their thoughts, reactions, connections, likes/dislikes, reminders, noticings, or anything else they would like.
*Some of the writers choose to write a fiction story based on the picture.
*We write between five and ten minutes and then do a quick share at the end.
*We didn't TALK about the picture before writing because I wanted the students to get their own ideas and opinions down first.
*A great class discussion was had after the writing as to whether this was a real picture or a fake picture with a type of optical illusion.
*We had writers on both sides of the "debate".
